Pray for Haiti - ABCNJ Haiti Relief 2021

Information on how you and your congregation can partner with ABCNJ in providing relief in Haiti. On August 14, 2021, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake devastated Haiti. While lasting less than a minute, over 54,000 houses were destroyed, in addition to public and religious buildings, schools, and businesses. The earthquake caused over 2,200 deaths and 12,000 serious injuries.

Upcoming Puerto Rico Mission Trip 2021

While we had to postpone our mission trip to Puerto Rico due to Covid, we are excited to announce that we can now announce our rescheduled date!

The American Baptist Churches of New Jersey (ABCNJ), in partnership with the American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS), is providing an opportunity for our churches to get directly involved in “Rebuilding, Restoring, Renewing Puerto Rico,” a multi-year initiative following the devastation caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017.

[WEBINAR] November 14th Workshop on "A Call to Men: Addressing Domestic Violence"

As Domestic Violence Awareness month comes to a close, we want to remind you that one person, one church, can make a difference. We can break the silence against violence and the trauma that diminishes a person's self-worth. We can preach, teach and invite guest speakers to our churches to promote healthy families. We can post materials that mark our church as a safe place for those who feel trapped. We can educate ourselves to look for signs of need and to equip ourselves to know how to help without doing harm. We can invite survivors to share stories of victory over abuse.

ABHMS’ Latino Ministries to Co-Sponsor Monthly Online Workshops; Racism Theme Planned for Sept. 25

As the first of their new monthly “Conversaciones Latinas Contemporáneas” (“Contemporary Latino Conversations”), American Baptist Home Mission Societies’ (ABHMS) Latino Ministries and the Hispanic National Caucus will offer the “Naked Inequality: Racism from a Latino Perspective” online workshop at 7 p.m. Eastern Time on Sept. 25.

“The polarization experienced in our communities, and even in our congregations, is an urgent call to create safe spaces for dialogue where love and respect should be the starting point to talk to each other,” says the Rev. Salvador Orellana, ABHMS’ director of Intercultural Ministries.

A Call to Prayer In These Difficult and Uncertain Times

From The American Baptist Churches of New Jersey and Palmer Theological Seminary, as we and our churches are making our ways in the midst of the pandemic, racial strife, and economic hardship, we feel uncertain, pulled in many directions, and subject to many concerns and fears. We have been struggling and divided over whether and how to open our churches; in fear and sorrow over catching the virus and loved ones lost to it; in despair over the loss of jobs and how to make ends meet; in the sorrow and lament over the things that we were expecting and looking forward to that have been lost; and in anger mixed with hope and ambivalence at the continuing manifestation of deadly racism and the strength of multi-racial protests and anti-racist efforts marred by violence by a handful
