ABHMS’ Latino Ministries to Co-Sponsor Monthly Online Workshops; Racism Theme Planned for Sept. 25

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 9/17/20)—As the first of their new monthly “Conversaciones Latinas Contemporáneas” (“Contemporary Latino Conversations”), American Baptist Home Mission Societies’ (ABHMS) Latino Ministries and the Hispanic National Caucus will offer the “Naked Inequality: Racism from a Latino Perspective” online workshop at 7 p.m. Eastern Time on Sept. 25.

“The polarization experienced in our communities, and even in our congregations, is an urgent call to create safe spaces for dialogue where love and respect should be the starting point to talk to each other,” says the Rev. Salvador Orellana, ABHMS’ director of Intercultural Ministries.

Panelists will be as follows:

  • Agustina Luvis Nuñez, professor at Seminario Evangélico de Puerto Rico;

  • M.T. Dávila, professor at Andover Newton Theological School and

  • The Rev. Abner Cotto Bonilla, president of the Hispanic National Caucus and pastor at Misión Bautista Hispana de Westchester.

The workshop is free of cost, but online registration is required before Sept. 23. All registrants will receive confirmation with a hyperlink to participate in the workshop.

“Conversaciones Latinas Contemporáneas” seeks to discuss how the church can respond to challenges that affect everyday life. The next workshop—planned for Oct. 24—will discuss the civic duty of voting.
